Getting Started

5 steps to get started tracking and scoring videos:

Step 1: Firstly create the video file
Videos can be created with almost any camera from phones and camcorders to full studio setups (although the accuracy of automated tracking will depend upon the quality of the video). Use the software which came with your camera to create video files in any common format and save it to your computer.

Step 2: Login and create an "experiment"
Llogin at http://www.actualanalytics.com and hit on "Launch App". The application will launch in a pop-up window and you're all set to create an experiment. An experiment should be created for each group of related videos. To create an experiment simply give it a name and select the species which the video contains.

Step 3: Upload your video and create a trial
Head to the "Store Videos" screen and simply select the video file from the standard video upload window. It's absolutely fine to have multiple trials within the same video (both side by side and one after another), so the next step is to create a trial by selecting the start and stop times and area of the video which is specific to this individual trial.

Step 4: Manually score and automatically track the video
You're now set to score and track the video. To score a video just define the behaviors you're looking to identify and then record these behaviors onto the video by using the keyboard to indicate occurrences of each event. To track videos of individual lab animals just complete the simple configuration and hit track. While tracking is in progress there's no need to stay logged into the application, if you log out tracking will continue in the background and next time you log in you'll be able to play the video with the tracking overlaid.

Step 5: Generate a report with behaviour, locomotor and zonal statistics
Finally, generate a report to output a Microsoft Excel or .csv with full statistical results along with the raw data points for further analysis.
