Terms:

What is a "Behavior"?
A behavior is the unique name used to identify what is happening in the video.

What is an "Event"?
An event is on incident of a behavior, for example behaviour X happens from 0:02 - 0:06 and this incident is an event.

Behaviors:

How do I add a behavior?
Behaviors are added form the "Define Behaviors" step under the "Score" tab.

Why is there a key assigned to a behavior?
Each behavior is assigned a key which when pressed indicates the behavior is occurring.

What does "hold" and "toggle" mean?
In order to accommodate both short and long running behaviors there are two modes in which behaviors can be scored. Hold means that the key must be pressed for all times during which the behavior is occurring. Toggle is for longer running behaviors, the first press of the key indicates the behavior is starting, a second press indicates the behavior has finished.

How many behaviors can I have?
Within each experiment there can be 36 behaviors (limited by the number of alphanumeric keys on the keyboard).

Can I change a behavior's name?
To change a behavior's name select the edit action from the "Define Behaviors" screen.

How do I change the key for a behavior?
To change the key for a behavior select the edit action from the "Define Behaviors" screen.

What happens if I delete a behavior?
If a behavior is deleted, all results which use this behavior will also be deleted.

Can there be mutually exclusive behaviors?
It is not currently possible to have mutually exclusive behaviors - i.e. automatically end the occurrence of one behavior when a second behavior starts. We are aiming to add this in the near future (please let us know if this will be useful to you so we can push it up the priority list!).

Scoring:

What is Scoring?
Scoring is the process of indicating when a particular behavior is occurring in a trial?

How do I Score behaviors to a trial?
To Score a trial initially define the trial and behaviors you are looking to identify and then open the Score Trial screen, selecting the appropriate trial from the drop-down. To start scoring press the "Record" button which will start playing the trial - by pressing the appropriate key when a behavior is occurring this event will be a dded to the event log and results.

What is "Record" mode?
To score behaviors to a trial you need to press the "Record" button which disables all other buttons in the application, plays the video, and treats all key-presses as incidences of a behavior.

What is the "Event Log"?
The event log is a list of all occurrences of a behavior in the assigned trial. While recording events are added to the log in real-time and during play back events are added to the list as they occur.

How do I fine tune the start and stop time of an event?
To fine tune an event select the event from the event log and edit the event from the menu. This will allow you to change the start and stop times. If the new values overlap with an existing occurrence of this event they will be automatically merged into a single event.

How do I delete an event?
To delete an event select the event from the event log and delete the event from the menu. There is also the option to delete all the events of the same behavior.

Can I score the same trial multiple times?
Yes, you can score the same trial an unlimited number of times, either the same behavior multiple times or new behaviors each time.

What happens if I score the same behavior multiple times?
There is no problems scoring the same behavior multiple times as you score the trial. If any of the incidents of the same behavior overlap they will automatically be merged into a single event.

Playback:

What happens when I play the video back after Scoring?
After scoring a video it can be played back. When a scored behavior occurs it will be highlighted in the Behavior table and the event will be added to the event log.

Can I playback just the occurrence of an event?
Yes, by selecting an event from the event log you can playback just this incidence of the behavior.
